This summer, United Airlines plans to increase its frequency of service between the Atlantic and Pacific oceans by adding more than 150 flights per day. Recent Cirium reports indicate that the airline is well-positioned for future expansion.
United will begin daily flights from Los Angeles International Airport to Calgary International Airport (YYC), a distance of 1,206 miles, on June 27 and continue the flights until September 24. United's Airbus A320 aircraft, which can hold 150 passengers, will be used for the service. Notably, during the designated term, this addition will help the airline enhance its capacity by 27,000 seats. On this route, United will have competition from WestJet, which operates three daily flights, and Lynx, which operates four weekly flights.
Despite Simple Flying's unsuccessful attempts to contact United for comment, new information obtained by Cirium suggests that United intends to improve its service from San Francisco International Airport (SFO) to Calgary. The airline plans to operate twice-daily services in July and August, doubling the number of flights compared to the summer of 2023. United originally intended to operate these flights using Boeing 737 MAX 8, but in order to improve its customer experience, the airline has chosen to employ Airbus A320s.
In addition, United plans to add four daily flights from SFO to YYC in August, doubling the number of daily flights now operated. But the aircraft types will change: one trip will use the Airbus A320, while the other will continue to use the Boeing 737 MAX 8.
These changes are in line with United's strategy to streamline its business processes and successfully meet passenger demand.
United's services from Calgary now reach Denver, Chicago, Washington, Houston, and beyond California. The airline wants to expand frequency significantly, especially in August, and it expects to operate 682 round-trip flights with around 107,000 seats. With an eye toward the future, United has already planned to start operating extra daily flights from SFO to YYC in January 2025, albeit using Embraer E175 aircraft instead.
In conclusion, United Airlines' growth plans demonstrate its dedication to improving connectivity and accommodating passengers' changing local and international travel demands.
